What does it mean to be Active? A person is consisdered active when they have been initiated and are meeting all school and sorority requirements.

What is a bid? A bid is an official request given to prospectives when they have been invited to begin the pledging process.

What is a prospect? A prospect is a person that is interested in joining a fraternity or sorority.

What is pledging? Pledging is a trial period of adjustment to fraternity or sorority life, usually based on educating pledges about their chosen fraternity or sorority.

How long is the pledging process? The pledging process at Alfred State College lasts 4 weeks.

Are there requirements for pledging? Yes. In order to begin pledging a prospective must have a GPA of a 2.0 or above. Transfer students must have a minimum of 12 credits. The prospective must at least be a second semester freshman. The prospective must be enrolled as a full time student at Alfred State College.

Will I be hazed? No. In New York State any form of hazing is considered illegal. At no time during any pledging period will a pledge be forced into participating in an activity that is deemed hazing.

What is hazing? Hazing is any activity that causes physical or emotional harm to a pledge. This is including, but not limited to; sleep deprivation, pledge ditches, prolonged physical activity, branding of any body parts, degradation of any form, forcing or coercing consumption, dropping of food into the mouth or throat, and restriction of personal hygiene or nutrition.
